What do LCFC spectators contribute to Leicester’s economy?

I was astounded – yet not surprised at the same time (if that’s even possible!) to read a recent report sent to us by travel company ‘GoEuro‘ about just how much revenue Leicester City FC is generating for our economy in terms of spectators who spend money on accommodation, transport, food and drink etc.

Seen in the graphic below taken from the report* (in a section where we’re benchmarked against Sunderland, Norwich and Southampton), football spectators – both home & away, add nearly £17m a year to the city’s economy!

….and this is only set to grow given the Club has qualified for the Champions League. With four guaranteed games in the group stages, we could see approximately 40,000 to 50,000 overseas fans visiting Leicester next season.

The GoEuro report goes on to say that the Premier League generates more revenue for the UK’s cities than any other league in Europe, totalling £447,688,000! Anyway – see the full infographic for yourselves here.

I am sure we will see a lot more facts and figures coming out about the Foxes’ epic season, in the near future (and long may it continue!!!!)

If anyone has any economic-related data that they would be willing to share, please get in touch – we always find this sort of stuff useful and interesting.
