More than 300 students from 20 schools and colleges took part in the county’s largest careers speed networking event.
The event, run by the Leicester and Leicestershire Enterprise Partnership (LLEP) returned for a third year, and was held at Leicester Racecourse on Friday 9 November 2018.
Over 150 employers took part in the event, which gave the students an opportunity to ‘speed network’ in order to learn more about the local labour market and future job opportunities available to them.
The event, part of Leicester Business Festival, works by giving small groups of students a six minute window to ask each employer a series of questions, before they move on to the next business representative.
This format gives the students the opportunity to speak to a wide-variety of local employers – from small traders to large corporations, covering a number of sectors from construction to retail, and services to manufacturing.
The event was sponsored by Morningside Pharmaceuticals Ltd, which manufactures and supplies quality generic and branded medicines to UK hospitals and pharmacies, as well as essential supplies to aid agencies.
Following the 2017 event the students who attended were surveyed, with 94% saying they felt more aware of their career choices, as a result of taking part.
To ensure the students gain a wide-range of feedback, the LLEP is calling on other local businesses to get involved. Those participating will be required to talk about their career, give industry insights and employability ‘top tips’.
