Following our successful trip to the House of Commons in February 2015, we wanted to hold a local event to share the success of our businesses which had received an RGF grant.
The event, which was held at Leicester Racecourse on Wednesday 20th May 2015, escalated into a day of wider business celebration, incorporating a free business showcase followed by a fashion show and a gala dinner attended by over 250 people.
Our afternoon business showcase, from 12noon until 5pm, was free to exhibit and to attend. It attracted nearly 70 exhibitors and over 200 delegates.
Four, fifteen minute ‘hot box’ talks in the ‘Speaker’s corner’ covered a range of topics including access to funding, grants for the creative sector and a broadband voucher scheme. The speakers’ presentations are available as downloads below.
Videos of what the grant programme meant to businesses were filmed on the day. These are available on Leicestershire TV.
The fashion show formed part of the evening gala dinner celebrations. It was organised by Janie Morgan Wood and the Leicester Textiles Trust. Product ranges all made by firms in Leicester and Leicestershire from garments and knitwear through to accessories and hosiery were brilliantly modelled by students from Lemon Jelly arts .
The Leicester Textiles Trust is a new company with charitable aims to support the promotion and advancement of education about the textiles manufacturing industry. There are over 700 textiles based businesses in Leicester and Leicestershire and the critical mass of businesses need support to maintain to grow the area as a manufacturing base.
