Pathways, a partnership of higher education providers in Leicester City, Leicestershire and Rutland, are looking for a team of Parent/Carer Ambassadors to support other parents and carers with the information they need to help their child to apply to study at university, a degree apprenticeship or to do a degree course at college.
Parent/Carer Ambassadors will spend time talking about their experiences online, having discussions with other parents and carers at school events and as part of university and college events, including open days, in Leicestershire. Due to Covid-19 it is highly likely that some of these events will be taking place virtually using platforms like Zoom.
During these sessions, Ambassadors will share experiences of helping their own children through college/sixth form through to applying for university, post 18 apprenticeships or other degree level courses. This could include experiences of accessing student finance or supporting children financially through their studies.
Ambassadors will need to offer a friendly and approachable source of information on the steps towards and benefits of young people doing a higher or degree level qualification and be prepared to answer any questions other parents and carers may have about the process of applying and transitioning into university life or an alternative route.
Pathways are looking for a team of ambassadors living in Leicestershire or Rutland from a range of backgrounds who will be confident in helping other parents and carers to overcome their concerns about their children accessing higher education.
A Parent/Carer Ambassador is a paid role to be undertaken on a casual basis and full training will be given.
