Leicester and Leicestershire Business Survey 2017

The Leicester and Leicestershire Business Survey 2017 is a valuable evidence base that provides a snapshot of the of the local business landscape.  It delivers a robust source of intelligence that contributes to the planning and decision-making process and underpins the Leicester and Leicestershire Enterprise Partnership’s (LLEP) strategic thinking and its local economic strategy.

The Business Survey itself is a telephone survey of over 1,000 businesses with an average interview length of 25 minutes.  Businesses were required to answer around 70 questions.  The Business survey took place between August and October of 2017.  Some of the key topics included in the survey relate to:

  • Business Concerns
  • Exports
  • General Business Conditions and Business Optimism
  • Business Growth
  • Performance (including Sales Turnover, Profit Performance)
  • Recruitment and Recruitment Difficulties
  • Skills
  • Training

Topics not included previously include:

  • Brexit
  • Imports
  • Contracts
  • The Digital Economy
  • Relocation

The inclusion of Brexit related questions is as a result of the LLEP and its partners wanting to understand the impact and future impact of the decision to leave the EU on local business (including size and type).  The inclusion of Brexit related questions will be repeated in the delivery of the next Business Survey.  This will take place in 2019 after the UK has left the EU.
