North West Leicestershire District is located to the north west of the LLEP area and has a population of 98,400.
The District comprises both large tracts of rolling countryside and an industrial heritage in and around the largest settlement of Coalville. Ashby-de-la-Zouch is the second largest settlement in the west of the District.
The National Forest areas covers half the district and is one of the country’s boldest environmental projects, with over 7 million trees planted and a valuable resource providing significant leisure and recreation opportunities. Other important tourism facilities include Donington Park Race Track, 1620’s House and Garden, Conkers and Ashby Castle.
The District is home to East Midlands Airport, both an international passenger airport and the second largest freight handling airport in the UK – resulting in a thriving transport and logistics sector.
