Melton is an attractive rural area in the north east of the LLEP area. The Borough covers 48,138 hectares and has a population of 51,000.
The main economic activities are centred around the market town of Melton Mowbray and there are 70 small villages in the surrounding rural area.
Melton is promoted as the Rural Capital of Food and Drink, with an international reputation for local food products such as Stilton Cheese and Melton Mowbray pork pies. Large employers in the district include Mars UK, Samworth Brothers and the Pera Innovation Centre.
The area attracts tourists to attractions such as Belvoir Castle. The East Midlands Food and Drink festival is hosted in the Borough.
