Leicester Waterside Regeneration Area

Project Summary

The Leicester Waterside is a regeneration project that will transform a 150 acre, largely run-down former industrial site in a key location in the heart of the city centre.  The Waterside area is located to the north west of the city centre between the A6 and Rally Park and contains the River Soar and Grand Union Canal.

The regeneration of the Waterside is an opportunity to create a vibrant and thriving neighbourhood with new homes and new workspaces and bring in new investment.

Outcomes:

Development delivered on key sites and renewing worn-out infrastructure will lead to:

  • Redundant or underutilised buildings brought back into economic use
  • Conserving and protecting heritage assets and public realm
  • Supporting construction industry supply chains

Outputs to 2020 are forecast to include around 200 homes, 140 jobs and 1,800 m2 of commercial/office floor space along with public realm improvements. Beyond 2020 a further 250 homes and 3,600 m2 of office accommodation and 270 jobs are expected.
