If so, the Leicester and Leicestershire Enterprise Partnership (LLEP) is seeking a business leader who shares a vision and ambition to drive economic growth in Leicester and Leicestershire to become the new Chair of the Board.


What is the LLEP?

The LLEP is one of 38 Local Enterprise Partnerships (LEPs) in the country set up in 2011 to drive economic growth in places. The responsibilities of LEPs have increased significantly overtime and the government’s Industrial Strategy has committed to further strengthening the role of LEPs.

The partnership is directed by a Board of 15 leaders representing business, local authorities, higher and further education sectors and the voluntary sectors, with an independent Chair from the business community.

The LLEP provides a collective voice to government about the opportunities presented by the Leicester and Leicestershire economy and makes sure that this voice is heard in Westminster and the Midlands Engine.

The board make key investment decisions and oversees the LLEP’s spending which is in excess of £250m. The board is embarking on preparing our local industrial strategy which will set out the long-term economic vision and priorities for Leicester and Leicestershire.


What’s involved?

The Chair of the Board provides leadership and direction to both the Board and the wider network of partners, ensuring they collaborate, challenge, innovate and provide leadership. A strategic thinker, our new Chair will build on the success and reputation of the LLEP and drive it forward.

You will be a recognised business leader, with a high profile in the area and will bring strong regional and national networks. Meeting regularly with senior politicians and the Prime Minister twice annually, this is an exciting opportunity to make a significant impact locally and nationally.

You will be the ambassador for Leicester and Leicestershire businesses and play a leading role in amplifying the economic vision and strategy for the area nationally and in the Midlands Engine. You will need to have broad commercial experience an appreciation of, and the ability to work with public sector bodies, whilst demonstrating resilience, diplomacy and influence.

This is not a paid position and the commitment can be up to three days per month.

Reasonable expenses are covered. The Board term lasts for a period of three years.

If you are shortlisted for this position you will be invited to attend a panel discussion at the end of June 2018. If successful your term of service will formally commence on 1st October 2018 for a period of three years.
